Germany has also taken stock of the hail damage. A lot of damage was caused by the storm in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia as well. After the heat on Thursday, June 23, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees, a night of heavy thunderstorms followed. The severe weather continued to rage across the state into early Friday morning. This also resulted in considerable damage in agriculture.
The strong hailstorms left millions in damages in horticulture. According to the 'Gartenbau-Versicherung' (GV) west of North Rhine-Westphalia was worst hit, where large hailstones destroyed several greenhouses. The largest single loss is estimated at about 800,000 euros.

In total the GV North Rhine-Westphalia has received 126 damage reports so far. Erkelenz, Monchengladbach, Kevelaer and Hörstel have been most affected. Greenhouses especially were extensively damaged by hailstones. The damage caused in the case of field-grown crops was less. The GV currently estimates the total insured damage in this area at around three million.
To conclude this hail update, we move on to something completely different. The Dutch artists Dirk and Daan from Someren were also affected by the hail. They wrote a song about their experiences.
