The new families are made up of complementary varieties with similar timing, habit, and flower form so growers can create combinations matched for consistency. They are also suitable for matching up colors whether it is blackcloth or natural season. Some stand-alone varieties can be combined with selected families to create an appealing color affect.
“Mum combinations are very popular with consumers because they provide a great variety of color,” said Kent Carrell, market manager, Syngenta Flowers. “Using our new mum introductions, growers can build more successful combinations as they are known to work well together in terms of consistency and uniformity.”
The mum families that will be on display at Cultivate are:
- Nikki family of garden mums – Available in yellow, orange and dark pink, the Nikki family is new for 2017 and makes a classic tricolor combination that has shown tolerance to late-season frost.
- Rhonda family of garden mums – This new family offers six bold colors and is a great season extender as it flowers later than any other mum in the current Syngenta assortment.
- Milton family of pot mums – Available this year, the Milton family has two distinctive bicolor options that work well as single plants or to spice up combinations.
