Kenya: Trade union defends Karuturi job losses
In a statement on Sunday, Atwoli said the union was left helpless when the flower firm went under receivership owing to poor administration by shareholders and owners.
“Even the banks tried to inject in more cash in vain. Atwoli did not need to do magic in order to make the flower farm run when the company needed huge capitation, resources and prudent management to operate,” Atwoli said.
The COTU boss appeared to castigate Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula who on Sunday convened a meeting with a section of flower farm workers in Naivasha and blamed the closure of Karuturi Flower farm on the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union, which is an affiliate of COTU.
“Trade Unions do not give finances to companies faced with financial difficulties nor do we manage flower farms as the politicians indicated in their incitement utterances against trade unions,” he said.
