"Pakistan: "Floriculture share in global market negligible"

Despite a huge potential of producing good quality of flowers, the country's floriculture share in the international market is negligible. This was stated by University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while presiding over the inaugural session of a seminar titled "Prospects of bulbous flower production" in Pakistan. It was organised by the Institute of Horticultural Sciences in collaboration with Green Works, Lahore.

The Vice Chancellor said that changes in lifestyle and better standards of living had boosted up the requirement for the floriculture products. He said the country was facing the challenge of unemployment and poverty. The floriculture industry will provide employment to labour at a massive scale. He also called for promoting floriculture. He said that flower production had jacked up in Faisalabad, Sheikhpura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Chunian and Gujrawala.
