Australia: OSCOV Orchid show 2016

The Orchid Societies Council Of Victoria (OSCOV) held its annual show in Melbourne, Victoria in Southern Australia. It is the largest orchid show in Australia and attracted over 2,500 visitors plus exhibitors over the 3 days.

President Michael Coker said “We moved from a smaller show pavilion to the KCC Park in 2014 and the show has increased with patrons. With plenty of parking and being on a major arterial road, we have no access issues with people coming to this site.”

He went on to say, “We have over 100 exhibitors entering plants for competition and 20+ companies selling orchids of all breeding along with tissue culture, orchid bark (Orchiata), pots (Garden City Plastics) to battery operated spray units (The Swagman).”

The show is split in 3 areas.
  • Show Orchids with all the entrants and winners in the various competition categories. Winners are judged on a variety of factors including shape, colour, flower size and floriferousness.
  • Selling area with over 20 of the best commercial breeders and growers with the latest breeding and colours in many types of orchids. Cymbidiums, Phaleonopsis, Dendrobiums, Masdevallia, Oncidiums and others. Allied lines with pots, trays, labels and sprayers.
  • A Demonstration area covering topics such as repotting, dividing your orchids and fertilizing plus all aspects of getting the best out of your plants, as well as a Photography & Art Competition.
