FloraHolland cuts 100 jobs in 2017

100 jobs will disappear at the FloraHolland flower auction next year. The cutbacks will mainly be noticed by supporting departments, the commercial department and the ICT department.

The reorganization is part of a long-term plan with which FloraHolland wants to reduce a third (104 million) of operating costs by 2020. Next year its the turn of the aforementioned departments. The logistics department will be tackled in 2018.

Cause for concern
Management is consulting with the works council and the trade unions. The latter, CNV Vakmensen and FNB Bondgenoten, say that they are concerned about the long-term restructuring and additional uncertainty about the quality of work and the continuity of business operations.

Many knowledgeable workers have left in the past year and hundreds of temporary workers are working in structural workplaces, according to Fleur Magazine. CNV negotiator Kitty Huntjens: "The gap between the shop floor and management is getting bigger.”

Particularly sour
FNV director Jeroen Brandenburg speaks of a black week for the employees, who were informed last Tuesday and Wednesday. "More than 300 employees already lost their jobs over a period of 5 years. The new reorganization is particularly sour because of the higher 2016 turnover and more profit being made by the company."

ICT
Royal FloraHolland is modernizing the organization. One of the main developments is the construction of a 24/7 online trading platform. "The international ornamentals market is undergoing a major change. To maintain a healthy position it is necessary to save on costs, among other things. Then Royal FloraHolland can invest in the necessary innovations, like ICT."
