India: Jammu flower growers urge government to save market
Tajinder Singh alleged that due to the callousness of the State Government, the production of flowers has dipped many fold. The meeting recalled the golden years of 2009 to 2014 which saw a surge in flower growing activities, with flowers from Jammu exported to other states of the country. However in the last two years, flower growing particularly in Jammu region has been badly hit due to wrong policies.
Flower growers expressed astonishment over the fact that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti talks of a keen interest in the growth and development of commercial floriculture to spur income and employment generation, however the ground level depicts grim prospects and totally disenchantment. The assets created like cold room, reefer vans, greenhouses and nurseries under plan budget remain useless and unproductive. The disarray and unaccountability among the dispensation ruined the growing spirit of flower growers, the meeting said.
