US (VT): Grower fills greenhouse with popular Christmas plant

Now that the Thanksgiving holiday is behind us, it's time to look forward to the next big season and one local grower is more than ready.

It is a visual feast. Poinsettias for as far as the eye can see. There is more than a quarter million square feet of greenhouse space full of these Christmas plants.

"We start the crop in July, that's when we receive the first of our cuttings. We grow about 42,000 poinsettias for the next four weeks. So, it's pretty amazing how many plants we actually sell," said Chris Conant, from Claussen's.

Claussen's not only sells their plants to the public, they also supply florists, garden centers, school groups and churches around the state. According to Conant, it is a crop worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
