Indian government makes floriculture a priority

With the aim to develop the floriculture as an employment generating avenue eyeing the huge market for its produce at the national and international level, the Government is keen to make this sector as the priority sector.

The Secretary Tourism and Floriculture, Farooq Ahmad Shah in an important meeting with the coordinator for the centers of excellence for India from the Kingdom of Netherlands, Leon Husson, discussed threadbare about the potential of floriculture in the State of Jammu and Kashmir and it was decided to establish one center of excellence for skill up gradation in the floriculture sector which will be executed by generating awareness, farmer training and specific methodology training in the said sector. The meeting was also attended by the Dy councilor from the Kingdom of Netherlands for India in agriculture, floriculture and nature.

Shah said that Govt is developing floriculture as one of the priority sector which not only will benefit the state economically but will prove as a major employment generating initiative because the flowers of Jammu Kashmir are rich in fragrance and have longer shelf life. He said that the Chief Minister was seriously working to focus on the sectors which are employment generating and are economically rewarding for the youth of the State.
