Novelties at Plantarium 2017

New plants are introduced at Plantarium (August 23-26), having been bred by companies both in the Netherlands and abroad, and are judged by the Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society. Below you'll find the first selection of novelties that are going to be judged at the event.

Acer palmatum 'JWW7' (Brown Sugar)
Acer palmatum 'JWW7' (Brown Sugar) is a very healthy and strongly-growing Japanese maple. In spring the plant's shoots are chocolate brown to dark green. After midsummer's day, they turn bright red and keep on growing until late September. Since the plant produces branches well, it develops into a good shrub in a short period of time. The branches remain bright red throughout the winter. Brown Sugar is absolutely hardy and was submitted by Van Vliet New Plants from Stroe. The winner is Jan-Willem Wezelenburg from Hazerswoude, who also markets the plant. Brown Sugar is protected under plant breeding legislation.

Antirrhinum majus 'Pmoore07' (Pretty in Pink)
Antirrhinum majus 'Pmoore07' (Pretty in Pink) has bright-pink flowers with a yellow heart and an unusually slender and elongated shape. Pretty in Pink is different from other Antirrhinum species, due to its longer and more abundant blooming and larger flowers. You can enjoy them from early summer to autumn. Measuring 60 cm tall by 40 cm wide, Pretty in Pink is a compact plant that is very disease-resistant. An excellent plant for a perennial border or in a planter on your balcony or patio. The plant was submitted by Gebr. Th. & W. Alkemade B.V. from Lisse, which also markets it. Peter R. Moore from Stockbridge (United Kingdom) is the winner for this plant, which is protected under plant breeding legislation. Management is by Planttip BV from IJsselstein.

Buddleja alternifolia 'Pmoore12' (Unique)

Buddleja alternifolia 'Pmoore12' (Unique) blooms extremely abundantly over a long period. Unique's branches are covered with masses of graceful, lilac-coloured blooms from early summer until deep into autumn. The sterile flowers have a delicious fragrance and form a beautiful combination with the fine, silver-green leaves. Unique has an elegant bushy and compact shape. Ideal for a planter on your balcony or patio, but this butterfly bush is also very suitable for shrub borders, landscaping and butterfly gardens. Unique has a maximum size of 120 cm tall and 70 cm wide and flowers on new wood. Protected under plant breeding legislation, this Buddleja was submitted by Boomkwekerij Out vof from Hazerswoude, which also markets it. The winner is Peter R. Moore from Stockbridge (United Kingdom). Management is by Plantipp BV from IJsselstein.
