Guangzhou’s love for flowers wins the favor of WFC

It was the first time that the World Flower Council (WFC) held its annual conference in China and they had chosen Guangzhou as the host city for a reason: Guangzhou citizens’ unparalleled love for flowers.

For one thing, Guangzhou’s reputation as the City of Flowers can date back over 1700 years since it was one of the biggest flower production bases and transaction centers in China. Also, the tradition of planting flowers, admiring flowers, and presenting flowers on festivals has long taken root in Guangzhou citizens. No wonder Guangzhou is ranked among the top 3 flower consumer cities in China according to a report by Tencent. Furthermore, to embrace the cause of forging an international flower city, the Guangzhou Government recently unveiled its Quality Improvement Plan for National Forest City, Guangzhou (2016-2020), stipulating that by 2020 there will be 17 newly built wetland parks.

Intrigued by Exotic Flowers, Guangzhou locals packed the show
In addition, this year’s conference has for the first time opened its doors to ordinary residents, and Guangzhou locals’ strong interest in exotic flowers has driven thousands of enthusiasts into the show venue.

However, this feverish enthusiasm for exotic floral beauty from Guangzhou citizens is not at all unexpected for in recent years presenting imported flowers to one’s loved one has become a new fashion.

According to data from Guangzhou Biayun Airport, this Feb. 2 weeks before Valentine’s Day, as much as 28 tons of imported flowers were handled by the airport on a daily basis. Flowers from Kenya, Columbia, Ethiopia, Ecuador, etc, holds the biggest share. Some hard-core flower enthusiasts even make group trips to floral expos of other flower exporting countries, such as Holland, Japan, etc, after visiting the China International Floriculture & Horticulture Trade Fair (Flower Expo China) where various overseas floral species are displayed every year.

If you want to feel Guangzhou’s enthusiasm for flowers in person, register for Flower Expo China 2018. A Flower Arrangement Show & Charity Auction will also be held concurrently. Any floral artist who wants to share his/her flower arrangement skills with Guangzhou residents and professionals, are also welcome to contact the organizers.
