Royal FloraHolland is close to nature. Together with its members and clients, the cooperation makes the world prettier and healthier with flowers and plants. From now on, they also contribute as they give value to their waste flowers. In nature, all waste has value after all. "Corporate responsibility by implementing innovations is an important focal point of Royal FloraHolland. The aim is to reach a zero waste situation without any waste", says Piet Briët, CSR & Sustainability Manager at Royal FloraHolland. “In Milgro, we found a partner that can give value to our raw materials that we currently call waste. It is in line with our circular ambition. In time, this waste will make money instead of cost money."
Best Value Procurement
The tender procedure of the waste management of Royal FloraHolalnd was based on Best Value Procurement (BVP), which is based on purchasing and realising of the highest value for the lowest cost. This method offers tenderers optimal chances to let them show their expertise. After an intensive selection procedure, that was guided by specialists Royal HaskoningDHV on behalf of Royal FloraHolland, Milgro was selected as the best partner.
Laurens Groen, CEO of Milgro, is proud of the Royal FloraHolland assignment: "In the BVP process, we were able to ground the surplus value of our specialism. A digital waste mangement system enables us a stable process and conclusive data. Subsequently, out of data and knowledge, we will steer towards continual improvement of services and performance, optimization of recycling and reuse of raw materials. We extract more value out of raw materials and the costs for waste management of Royal FloraHolland and its clients will be reduced. All in all, it will result in profitable sustainability."
