Fiji: Floriculture training as an empowerment tool

Thirty participants benefited from the floriculture training program organised by the Ministry of Agriculture of Fiji in Labasa recently.

At the training, Ministry of Agriculture farm management officer Naomi Naiqumu told the participants that their certificates would enable them to access financial loans and government assistance that would help them set up or expand businesses.

Agriculture senior officer Timoci Vakaboro said the training would enable women to have access to other markets and be able to have more technical knowledge of individual farming.

"The idea behind the training is to get women to have more access to the market," he said.

"They would be able to broaden their knowledge not only on horticulture, but potting of seeds, cutting of flowers and to discuss how they can form an association here in Macuata."
