US: 2018 Southern Garden Tour locations announced

The 2018 Southern Garden Tour will be hosted by Young's Plant Farm, University of Georgia and Metrolina Greenhouses on June 5-7. All retailers, breeders, brokers, growers, industry professionals, media, and students are welcome to attend.

Young's Plant Farm will host an Open House on June 5th. The Young's trial garden consist of 26,400 square feet of raised beds which include both sun and shade conditions. The garden features over 300 combination plantings in containers, hanging baskets and landscaped beds as well as 432 in ground comparison trials with new varieties. The trial garden gives Young's the ability test varieties and find those that perform best in the mid-south. This will help ensure the highest success potential for consumers who purchase our product from regional garden centers.

University of Georgia is the second stop on June 6th. The garden is located in an extremely unique setting in the heart of UGA's south campus with 23 raised beds, shade garden, bog garden, water garden, sun garden and eye level garden. Some features are 190 stone cast containers, 150 hanging baskets, perennial collection and a 121 rose cultivars. The garden includes the newest ornamental plants every year as well as classic plants that people still love. The University of Georgia has a history of training numerous students who are now leaders in the industry.



Metrolina Greenhouses will host an Open house on Thursday June 7th. The trial garden at Metrolina includes 1200 varieties of annuals (Introductions and benchmarks) planted in ground and in containers, an extensive perennial garden that is overwintered for 2 years, 450 combinations in hanging baskets and containers in both sun and shade, a Hydrangea comparison trial that was planted in 2016 and a Zinnia comparison trial new this summer. The purpose of the trial garden at Metrolina is to test garden performance under North Carolina conditions.
