Netherlands: VDE plant reaches 70 year milestone

Family run company VDE plant blows out 70 candles this year. To celebrate this milestone, the company has issued a magazine in which it reflects on its history and looked forward towards the future.

"VDE stands for Van Der Eijk. Our grandfather started with the cultivation of vegetables. After a number of years he switched to cut flowers (freesia and amaryllis). When Teun (our father) and his brother Bert entered the business, they switched to potted plants. That was in the early 1980s." Now the third generation is in charge: Karin and Edwin van der Eijk. They do this together with partner Hein Visser, who has been working at the company since he was 18 years old.

"Without our employees, our company would not have come this far," says the management. "Just like any other company, our company also had to deal with lesser periods. Thanks to the resilience that everyone showed, we have overcome these times. This also applies to our suppliers. Because of the mutual trust we've already been working with most suppliers for about 30 years (and with some even longer)."

On the occasion of the anniversary, VDE plant published a magazine. "Our joint passion for green houseplants is deep. In the magazine we want to share that passion with you. Because plants in their endless variety and beauty are not only fantastic to look at, but plants also contribute to a healthy and pleasant life.

This year we have done some restyling in our canteen and inspiration area. We are going to expand this a bit further because we have established a nice collaboration. In the magazine you will be introduced to the new VDE plant. After years of selection, we have brought together our exclusive plant varieties under our own brand Intenz Home. The products are innovative, exclusive and full of character. We want to promote this brand more and more. The magazine is for everybody and can be picked up at our head office at the Oudendijkseweg."

The magazine was made with great enthusiasm and published by Great Magazines Amsterdam. Photography was provided by Marco Ammers.
