JOBU helps Danish grower with new insert

The label is (not) blowing in the wind

At the nursery and during the trials the problem of labels being blown away by the wind did not occur, but once delivered to the customers, it happened. It appeared to be a common issue, Danish garden plant grower Gunnar Christensens Planteskole found when inquiring at different garden centers. In cooperation with Danish company Floralabels and Dutch company JOBU Plastics, they found a custom-made solution.

At first, he never thought about it, but after asking some garden centers it appeared that many of them were dealing with this same problem. This motivated Henrik Christensen to look for a solution. "We had to come up with something new, something that made the labels stay on while still allowing us to print labels with ease. After getting in touch with Jos Buskermolen of JOBU Plastic via Floralabels - where we buy our white labels - he had sent us a variety of different inserts which we tested. None of them sufficed. Based on our requirements a whole new model was developed, a production mold was made and now we work towards satisfaction with these new label inserts.”

The inserts have smart hooks by which the label stays on the stick firmly. A different problem that needed to be overcome is that the printed labels were too light. “Third parties, where you can buy pre-printed labels, commonly have more heavy labels, but this makes it harder to always provide client specific labels. But for us, it is important that we can keep printing labels ourselves with our own printer because we want to keep being able to offer this service to our customers. With the new label inserts, even our lighter labels stay on the stick.”

GCPlant is a Danish grower of perennial and woody garden plants. Besides this, a wide assortment of fruit trees, berries, annuals, and dahlias is being cultivated, though in smaller numbers. Afterwards, the product mainly finds its way into garden centers in Denmark and Sweden.

JOBU Plastics is specialized in the development of easy-to-use plastic products to be used in both garden and indoor plants. Especially when plants need some form of support or can stand to win some in their presentation, JOBU Plastics offers products that can be a solution to this. The most well-known example is clip rings, with which plant stems can be clipped to supporting sticks. In the whole assortment of potted plants, you will find their wide assortment of rings, clips, clamps and label inserts.
