Indonesia: Ministry of Agriculture sets eyes on orchid flower business

Director General of Horticulture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Suwandi paid a visit to the Ornamental Crops Research Institute (BALITHI) of Ministry of Agriculture, in Cipanas and several locations for seed and flower nurseries in Cianjur Regency, West Java, Sunday (9/2/2018).

When visiting the center of cultivation and development of ornamental plants of PT Merlimba Sentra Agrotama in the Cugenang Sub-District of Cianjur District, Suwandi read about the promising business opportunities for chrysanthemums, lilies and orchids flowers. Various types of imported seeds and seedlings such as lily flowers are developed in this region.

The interest generated from the development of these imported seedlings enters the local market, such as Jakarta and Bali, with a relatively high selling price of between IDR100 - 135 thousand per package. Some have been exported even though the amount is still small, around 2.4 tons in 2017, he said.
