From chickens to greenhouses; Van Eck celebrates its 30th anniversary

As a son of a poultry farmer, Paul van Eck started 30 years ago with the disinfection of chicken sheds. Soon afterwards, entrepreneurs from the horticulture industry also approached him for the disinfection of their greenhouse. In the years that followed, Van Eck Hygiëne grew into a well-known player in horticulture.

Although the company has its roots in Brabant in the south of the Netherlands, growers from the Westland were customers from the very beginning. "At the time we developed the Turbofog, which gave us a large capacity to disinfect the greenhouses," says Paul.

In the recent past the company has experienced a steady growth and since four years ago they have been located in Son en Breugel. "We have many loyal customers and every year we get some new ones. Especially internationally there is potential for growth. The economic crisis did not give us much trouble. Also in those years we continued to grow. Hygiene is an important factor in horticulture. A grower always has to disinfect."

In the early years, Paul himself was actually working non-stop. "In the meantime my work has changed and that is fun too. We now have about 45 employees. It is difficult to get good people. That is why we invest a lot in our employees, for example by offering guidance and courses. We meet regularly to discuss matters on hand."

Future plans
For the coming years Paul sees the admission of products as the biggest challenge. "Fortunately, there is now a lot of attention for the importance of good products. In recent years we have developed various machines. For example, for the atomization of hydrogen peroxide we have developed a cold atomizer."

There are more developments. Paul expects to expand the company further in the coming years, and also new construction is planned. "And at the end of this year we hope to put a new fogger on the market. This way we continue to develop and grow."
