A new strategic direction, to move from the current federated model to a new model where businesses and associations are directly involved in their national body, has been reached between the Nursery and Garden Industry associations after the NGIA Board, State Presidents and their invited members met in Sydney this week.
The focus of the new national organisation will be on the three defining pillars of:
- Developing Markets
- Reducing costs, and
- Protecting investments.
“This is an excellent step forward to ensuring the future of the nursery and garden industry in Australia is strong, relevant and influential,” said Karen Brock, NGIA President. “After the meeting this week all parties are satisfied and have confidence in this strategic decision”.
“There is still plenty of work to be done and the transition period will take time. The NGI network will continue to operate as usual and Members will be informed of all the details as they are determined.”
“I want to extend thanks on behalf of the industry, to all the people who have given their minds and time to achieve this positive step”.
The meeting, for the first time, included only elected and invited Members of the network and was facilitated by independent consultant Brian Ramsay of Inovact Consulting.
The meeting gave consensus to:
- Support a reinvention of NGIA and form a new national body.
- The new body will be a hybrid model and include both businesses and state associations in direct membership.
- The new body will focus on delivering “three pillars” being developing markets; reducing costs and protecting investments.
- A Transition Team will be formed with members to be identified by 12 December 2018.
- The Transition Team will produce an Information Memorandum for Members nationally to consider by June 2019.
Assisting the network to get to the strategic decision was a report by Inovact Consulting which provided independent advice on a workable way forward for the industry. A copy of the report is available on request to email@example.com.
“The next step for the NGI network is to develop an Information Memorandum and articulate the vision and process to NGI businesses across the whole industry,” said Brian. “The Transition Team will ensure that momentum is maintained and accelerated so Members can decide in June next year.”
The Structure Review for the NGI network commenced in early 2016. Over the three years, industry has obtained independent research, completed two Member led reviews and obtained an independent business report.
