Corrina Lowe, Chambers Farm Flowers:

"I’d love to see more people choosing British flowers"

Corrina Lowe and her family moved to Kent from Surrey three years ago with the dream of finding a house with some land that she could grow flowers on. In January of 2017, they began to put drainage into the field, build a reservoir pond and lay rabbit proof fencing round five acres, all by hand. It was a huge family effort, with grandma even on the trenching machine.

Corrina says: "Our first goal was to grow the flowers for our own wedding last July and despite being up till 2am on the eve of our wedding day, it was fabulous to think it was all ours."

She adds: "Mostly it’s just me now with some help from hubby during busy times as weekends. I’m lucky to have my brother helping with practical tasks for three mornings a week. We supply to local artisan florists, local bouquet orders, DIY buckets, wedding and event floristry, Christmas wreaths, workshops and edible flowers for caterers. We are chemical-free and try to be as sustainable as possible; using our own pond to water, we’re peat free, cutting down on single use plastic, using no-dig methods to encourage soil diversity."
