Turkish province focuses on greenhouse ornamental plant production

Edremit local municipality officials and mayor Ali Sirmali met with local entrepreneurs to discuss the terms and process of setting up the Edremit Agricultural Production Organized Ornamental Plant Greenhouse Zone. The aim of the project is to develop alternative agricultural products in the province and contribute to the local economy. The project is also approved and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture. The land selected for this project is also approved by all the stakeholders.

Mayor Ali Sirmali: “This is a very important step to establish an Organized Agricultural Zone in our province. We have gathered here all the relevant stakeholders to get their opinions and feedback in addition to demonstrating their support. We will continue working very hard to finalize this project.

When completed, these greenhouses will provide jobs for 1,000 people. Currently we are planning to grow around 4 million olive seedlings, 10 million ornamental plant seedlings, 50 million seasonal flowers and we expect to generate an annual revenue around 24 million USD when all the greenhouses are fully operational.

We will complete the infrastructure and legal framework for the project in 2019 and we want to start production in 2020.”
