The Malatya municipality will grow its own cut roses from this point onwards. One of the main issues most florists complain about in Malatya is finding suitable sources to purchase roses within Malatya and this greenhouse is hoped to solve this problem.
Speaking to press, Malatya Agricultural Chamber Representative Murat Tunc: “We place a lot of importance on the development of cut rose production in Malatya. For that reason we have signed the protocol to establish the first cut rose greenhouse in Malatya. This is a learning process and it will take time for rose production to take off in Malatya but Malatya at its heart is an agricultural production city.
We will see with the first greenhouse how feasible it is to grow roses in Malatya and then according to results, we will look for opportunities to expand this production. For us, the efficiency and cost compared to the rest of the global market is the determining factor. If we can grow roses at competitive cost levels, then we can start growing roses throughout the entire Malatya.”
