Gediflora named International Grower of the Year

Gediflora has been awarded the accolade of International Grower of the Year (IGOTY) 2019 by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH). Yesterday, this prestigious award was presented at the IPM Essen, in the presence of nine nominated companies, sponsors, as well as representatives of the biggest companies, producers and traders in the ornamental industry.

Overall winner Gediflora is a breeder and propagator of potted chrysanthemums. Now a third generation business, it services more than 30 countries and has over 50% market share in Europe, 30% in the US and 40% worldwide. The company’s mission is to make growers successful with their ‘golden genetics’ which produce a wide and innovative variety of easy-to-grow ball-shaped mums.

Awards were presented in the categories Cut Flowers, Young Plants, Finished Plants & Trees and Sustainability. The latter category is new on the roster, and the accompanying award is presented to a company which runs its business in an environmentally conscious and socially responsible manner. From the four category winners, an expert jury picks one overall winner.

Of particular note was the large number of Chinese companies: four of the nine nominees were Chinese. Also represented were Poland, Denmark, Belgium, Kenya and the Netherlands, with Clematis, Butterfly Garden, Gediflora, Oserian and OK Plant respectively.

The AIPH IGOTY 2019 Awards were supported by headline sponsor Royal FloraHolland, founding partner FloraCulture International, venue partner IPM Essen and sponsors Pöppelmann, Kuehne + Nagel, Florensis, GreenTech and Flormart.
