In the world of natural and painted hydrangea, the vase life is becoming more and more important. Supermarkets, both in the USA and in Europe are looking for products that last longer, so clients can enjoy their flowers for at least a week. In cooperation with our clients we are managing to fulfill it.

Working with small growers
Jetty Flowers is such a company who is aiming for high quality products that have a long vase life. To achieve that, they work with around 60 to 80 small growers. “They grow hydrangeas at half or one hectare, next to their houses and with a pickup they bring the flowers”, says Yonatan Nevo of Jetty Flowers. “We check each flower for quality and they take back the ones that don’t have the highest quality that is necessary for our demanding markets. We are very committed to a good relationship with our growers. As we take good care of them, they provide us with the best quality.”
Hydrangeas for the Boston Marathon
Since five years, painting Hydrangea has become their specialty and they have developed unique know-how. “We have several techniques to paint and any variation the client might need. It is important to take into account that our clients expect to get same quality, tone and colors every shipment, so consistency is our name. We are able to customize in every possible way. For the Boston Marathon that will take place in April, we were asked by Boston supermarkets to supply them with hydrangeas with a special logo. Also, for Mother’s Day, Easter and Summer supermarkets ask for special designs”, says Yonatan.
Looking for opportunities in China
Most of the growers and the location where the flowers are selected and painted, are located in Rio Negro, not far from Medellin, Colombia, and Jetty Flower’s main office is located in Ecuador. They ship to Europe, Asia, Middle East, Canada and the United States. Their products can be found at retail and wholesalers. “South Korea was for years the more demanding market for top quality hydrangeas, but since we opened our own facility, and with our dedicated team, we are working hard to have only one quality parameter for all markets”, says Yonatan.
“We aim at participating in China as well. Therefore, we will exhibit at the Flower Expo China in Guangzhou during March 17th-19th.”
Jetty Flowers has their new hydrangea catalog 2019 ready, so feel free to pick it up during the show at booth T21 - 2A. If you are not visiting the show, there is a digital version available too.
