Russia: Kaliningrad greenhouse to deliver 7.5 million tulips for March 8

Nursery Kalinkovo is planning to grow 7.5 million tulips for Valentine’s Day and International Women’s Day. The flowers will be delivered to various regions of the Russian Federation, reported the local government press service.

The first batch of three million tulips will be sent to the Altay area. The rest of the flowers will be delivered to Moscow and other cities of the Central and Privolzhsky federal districts.

According to expert evaluation, 100 million tulips are required to meet the demand of the Russian market. Currently, Kaliningrad growers cover about 10% of the Russian flower market. With that, the current capacity makes it possible to grow this share to a third.

“We would like to sell about 30 million tulips. This is the amount of flowers we could grow with the current capacity”, reported the commercial director of the company, Ms. Elena Maltseva.

Since last year the company have been using layered growing that allows enhanced productivity without acreage expansion or expenses increase. The Kalinkovo company is planning to construct a new greenhouse, however, to carry out this plan, additional gas volume is required.
