Philippines: Flower prices soar ahead of Valentine’s Day

The prices of high-quality fresh cut flowers from upland towns in Benguet have sharply increased a week before the Valentines’ Day.

Ligaya Pumihic, who delivers and sells flowers at Dangwa terminal in Manila, said the price of red roses during this peak season was P700 [13.40 USD] per bundle (two dozens).

“During ordinary days, the wholesale prices for red and other roses from La Trinidad, Benguet range between P50 [1 USD] to P300 [5.70 USD] per bundle,” Pumihic told the Inquirer.

Fuchsia pink roses now cost P500 [9.60 USD] to P600 [11.50 USD] per bundle while white roses can be bought at P200 [3.80 USD] per bundle. Baby pink roses are now being sold for P150 [2.90 USD] per bundle.
