Fine-mesh insect gauze for Dümmen Orange

In De Lier in the Netherlands, construction work at Dümmen Orange is steadily progressing. Part of the project is the renovation of the existing wide-span greenhouses. The project is in the hands of Zwirs Horti Projects and Ventiguard has supplied the insect gauze.

Thrips gauze
Laurens Besemer from Ventiguard says: "The wide-span greenhouses require more measuring work than a standard Venlo greenhouse, because not all profiles are present. We therefore participated well in the design phase. It concerns both continuous ridge ventilation and three-pane windows. A choice was made for thrips gauze, as it is the most fine mesh material available. Huisman Scherming installed the gauze and made adjustments to the mechanism so that it fitted in the windows."

Increasing insect pressure
Ventiguard has been on the market with insect gauze systems since 2018 and Laurens notices that the demand for insect gauze is increasing. "The interest from the market has been great from the beginning. It is not only for new construction projects, but also for existing projects that were built without gauze, and where now a demand for insect gauze arises. Besides ever stricter requirements for food safety and the increasing limitations for crop protection products, we notice that the changing climate causes the insect pressure to increase, and with that the need to protect the crop against these insects."

Lots of work is the reason that Laurens is looking for a project manager to meet the demand from the domestic and international markets. "Customers especially appreciate the fast delivery of the gauze, between eight and twelve weeks. Horticultural projects have a tight planning schedule, so it is important that the materials are delivered on time."

Ventiguard can be found at the HortiContact in stand F 121 from 19-21 February.
