Robert Rosa, Antecy:

"CO2 extraction from outside air already technically possible"

"The extraction of CO2 from outside air for dosing in greenhouses is already technically possible. But further development and research is needed to make it also economically feasible." This was stated by Robert Rosa from Antecy during a pitch at the Fossil Free Plaza of Kas als Energiebron (Greenhouse as Energy Source) at HortiContact in Gorinchem.

The technique is based on adsorption of CO2 from outside air on a catalyst bed. This CO2 can be recovered with the help of heat and dosed in greenhouses in concentrated form. The patented technique was developed by Antecy, co-founded by Paul O'Connor, a former Shell employee.

A lot of heat is needed for the process - especially in summer, heat is often available from horticulture companies and the CO2 demand is high. There are still many questions about the optimal integration on a central or even on a de-central level at the greenhouse horticulture companies.

The industry is also very interested in the process. According to Rosa, this technique is cleaner and safer than the extraction of CO2 from flue gases with amines, which is used most often at the moment.
