How was Valentine's Day for florists this year? Josh Damewood of US floral software provider Floranext surveyed over 300 florists in regards to Valentine's Day and he released the survey results today in an infographic. Overall, the majority of the florists have had better sales this year compared to last year and retail sales still seem to be strong.

According to the results, 61.3 percent of the florists reported higher Valentine's Day sales in 2019, 17.9% reported the same an 20.8% lower compared to 2018.
Interesting is the fact that many florists (65%) reported higher Valentine's Day in-store sales vs last year, which means that retail sales are still strong.
Aside from red roses, the top selling products were Arranged flowers (74,4%), followed by hand-tied bouquets (11.4%), other roses (16.6%) and other (0.6%).
The majority sold long stemmed roses, only 42.2% sold short stemmed roses. And the average cost for a dozen red roses this year was 88 USD.
Also interesting to mention is that most retail florists (45.7%) started receiving Valentine's Day orders in the first week of February. This corresponds to what we often have heard from growers that orders are increasingly more often made closer to the holiday.
