EU: Warm spring results in positive start for garden plant season

Due to the good weather conditions, garden plant suppliers are able to present a beautiful product that they cultivated with lower energy use, and the consumer is ready to buy. It is a positive start of the season, and this vibe is also reflected on the exhibition floor of the FloraHolland Trade Fair in Naaldwijk, the Netherlands, which is in its second and final day today.

Henriette B. Christensen and Lene Berendtsen of Rosborg Denmark. This Danish grower specializes in miniature flowers, all of which it sells under the Eurostar brand. New at the fair was the Cosmo 5 in 1, a cosmo grown in a 6 centimeter pot, with 5 flowers so close together it looks like 1.

The Trade Fair is the place to be for the Dutch, as well as some other growers from Europe, to present their spring products, and even though the plants segment is doing well for the third year in a row, the number of exhibitors has been decreasing for years. At the show, 239 exhibitors are presenting their products this year. The reason for this decline is unknown. Maybe people are too busy to attend or are tired of the many exhibitions that are being held nowadays; or maybe with growers  organizing their own exhibitions and with initiatives like World Horti Center (who are currently organizing their own exhibition), this auction exhibition is impacted.

Jacob Christensen of Fashion Flowers. Among others, this grower is specialized in the production of Lipstick plants.

Claes Bastrup of Fairytale Flowers has almost 20 ha of production, making his company the biggest plant grower of Denmark. Campanula is one of the products in which the grower occupies a strong worldwide position.

The Fair is known as a growers' exhibition, but this year also companies with added value products were welcome. Several suppliers of containers, pots, sleeves and printing material were present.

FloraHolland already published a good first impression of the show (see the video below). Later, our colleagues of BPnieuws will publish an extensive photo report.
