To see what's new in an industry, a trade show is the place to go. Flower Expo China 2019 has reflected the dynamic trends in China, with 220 exhibitors from more than 30 countries welcoming 9,350 this year. The event organizers share some of the trends that have driven the success of this year's edition.
Floral designs
In the vicinity of Hong Kong and Macao, Guangzhou has picked up the metropolitan trend of high-end floral decorations, making Guangzhou the starting point for over 30% of Chinese floral design companies, many of which became exhibitors this year, such as Luming Flowers and Ta Sha Yu Studio.
Floral e-commerce
The rise of floral e-commerce has boosted China's daily flower consumption, making it an increasingly important retail channel for florists and growers, and some of them have even gone one step further by creating their own floral e-commerce platforms, such as exhibitors Huaeb and 24 Flora.
Preserved flowers
Many Chinese preserved flower producers have emerged in Yunnan and Guangdong since the imported preserved flowers boom. Guangzhou, as an important market, attracts makers from both provinces to come to find business. Ros Blossom, one of this year's preserved flower exhibitors, already re-booked for 2020 on site with double booth space.
Growing cut flowers demand
To understand the market, it is important what buyers need. In the past few years, driven by individual consumption and tourism landscape projects, there has been a steadily growing demand for cut flower, especially imported ones.
From countries including Kenya, the Netherlands, Ecuador, Colombia, Ethiopia, and Israel, over 600 imported varieties were showcased, catering to the market's growing thirst for diverse high-end cut flowers.
Many Chinese florists were interested in learning from exhibitors about the proper handling and care for imported cut flowers, and the increased proportion of floral decoration in booths of landscaping companies indicated cut flowers' increasingly important role in landscape projects.
Next year, the Flower Expo China will be held March 16-18 at the same venue.
