Decorating with plants

Plants are increasingly used as décor for interior design. Yes, houseplants certainly have always been enjoyed, but their popularity is increasing especially as retailers try to reach younger demographics. From the modern and sleek to holiday-oriented designs, ornamental growers have been transplanting their plants into decorative containers in order to expand their markets to beyond just selling plants; they seek to sell little luxuries or adorable gifts. These retailers try to capture the attention of consumers and even compete with cut flower producers for impulse or gift-stimulated purchases.

Plant growers would also take note that many of these containers do not have drainage holes and that consumers should be careful to not overwater their new purchases. Plant enthusiasts might be insulted that consumers are often purchasing the container and not really the plants in them. However, anything to increase sales and reach a potentially new demographic is essential to the future of the horticulture industry.

As consumers are captivated by the cute containers or fun gift items, they soon will become interested in plants. Here are 16 excellent designs.
