Jet Fresh Flowers receives award for social responsibility at Expoflores Florecuador 2019

On April 25, 2019, The National Association of Flower Producers and Exporters of Ecuador, Expoflores, held their 2019 FlorEcuador award show recognizing exceptional work, commitment and dedication in the flower industry. Jet Fresh Flower Distributors and Jet Fresh Flower Growers in Cotopaxi, Ecuador received the Human Transcendence award in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility for hosting our first Women’s Empowerment Class at the farm.

Farm managers Juanita and Carlos Coloma attended the award show where Juanita accepted the award for her efforts organizing an emotionally empowering event for the team that is 86% female. The Women’s Empowerment Class was the company's first motivational coaching event that discussed matters specifically affecting female team members.

As a manager and confidant at the farm, Juanita discovered that some of the female team members have endured emotional hardships at home which are affecting their everyday lives. Juanita was touched by the matters affecting her team that she got personally involved, effectively opening a healthy dialogue to improve their happiness and self-worth through motivational counseling.

The Women’s Empowerment Class had great feedback by Expoflores, whose Social Help Department attended and expressed interest in replicating this coaching session in other farms, according to Juanita.

Expoflores was created in 1984 “with the mission of representing the Ecuadorian flower industry and meeting the needs of partners, through fast and effective services that help them generate added value in business, framed in social and environmental norms.”

Jet Fresh Flower Growers, established for only a year, was in the company of large, well-established flower farms who were also recognized that evening.

Florequisa’s Dr. Elena Terán received special recognition as a female leader in the floral sector for over 37 years. She was a judge of Ecuador and has become an iconic member of the floral industry as a matriarch in a patriarch world. Juanita looks up to her greatly. “I wish to be like her one day,” she said.
