Netherlands: Construction has started for FloriWorld

After a few years of planning developments and preparations, FloriWorld has now officially broken ground on the 25th of April. Following a short speech by Daniëlle Santen, director of FloriWorld BV and experienced architect Bert Kranendonk of the Dutch Experience Group, the construction could finally begin. Dennis van der Lubbe, Steven van Schilfgaarde, and Bert Kranendonk planted the first tree together on behalf of the three shareholders, the Flower Council of Holland, Royal FloraHolland and Dutch Experience Group respectively. Despite the pouring rain, alderman Robert van Rijn (Aalsmeer) and René van Schie of the Metropole Region Amsterdam watered the tree together with Daniëlle Santen. The bondholders that attended the event proceeded to plant trees and sow bee-friendly flowers with the help of everyone present. Soon, signs can be seen of a well-flowered building. KondorWessels projects are responsible for the development.

FloriWorld
FloriWorld is a unique and surprising tourist attraction revolving around the theme of flowers and plants. Targeting national and international tourists, but also, for instance, attractive for educational or business purposes. FloriWorld is the home base and the new calling card of the sector and contributes to the ‘top of mind’ position of flowers and plants with consumers and stakeholders. FloriWorld is a welcome addition to current tourist attractions surrounding Amsterdam and Schiphol in the heart of the Dutch identity. Because of this, FloriWorld falls in line with the plan to spread out the tourism in Amsterdam more evenly and is part of the Flowers storyline in the HollandCity policy of the NBTC.
