Increase solvency and equity capital, decrease long-term debt

Dutch Greenhouse horticulture had a good financial year in 2017

The solvency of Dutch greenhouse horticulture companies has increased for the fourth year in a row: to 58% in 2017. An increase of 250,000 euro of the equity capital contributes positively to this. The average balance total of a greenhouse horticulture company ends up at almost 3.6 million euro and that benefits investments: they have increased significantly in 2017 after a decrease in 2016, figures on Agrimatie show.

The balance value of the average greenhouse horticulture company shows a stable picture since 2010. By letting go of the upper limit of the sample companies in the Information Net in 2010, which included the very large companies and the good result of that year, the balance value strongly increased compared to the period up to and including 2009.

In the greenhouse horticulture, the balance value of greenhouse vegetable companies with an average of 4.6 million euro is the highest in 2017. The area and the m2 of greenhouses are larger in these companies than in ornamental cultivation companies.

After a decrease of the investments in 2016, the investments have increased significantly in 2017 to an average of 270,000 euro per company, the highest level this century. 55% of this related to installations and machines, and 30% to greenhouses. Within the sector, the investment level in the greenhouse vegetable cultivation was the highest, with an average of 415,000 euro in 2017.
