The Chelsea Flower Show starts on 21 May and at the show, 12 varieties are showcased that are represented by Plantipp.
Agapanthus Fireworks (‘MBD001’PBR) is bred by De Wet Plant Breeders from South-Africa. It is an Agapanthus with large flower clusters and hanging flowers in blue and white. It is a neat, compact plant with short and broad foliage, and it's resistant against crown rot.
Another introduction is Ajuga tenorii Princess Nadia (‘Piotrek01’PBR). Princess Nadia flowers abundantly and has fine, variegated foliage. The flowers are of an intense purple colour and the new shoots are beautifully pink. Princess Nadia is bred by Nadia Plants from the Netherlands.
Nepeta Neptune (‘Bokratune’PBR) has blue coloured flowers. Neptune has large flowers and it blooms abundantly in summer with re-bloom in autumn. Nepeta Neptune is the first compact kubicana-hybrid and was found by Kees Jan Kraan from the Netherlands.
Chlorophytum saunderisiae ‘Starlight’PBR has sterile, white flowers that are formed like little lilies. It keeps on flowering. The variegated foliage of this Chlorophytum gives the plan extra ornamental value. ‘Starlight’ is heat resistant and therefore fits well in the changing circumstances of the modern garden. Chlorophytum ‘Starlight’ is bred by Ian Lief from South-Africa.
Also two new Clematis are being introduced: Clematis ‘Kokonoe’PBR from breeder Shigeaki Ochiai from Japan and Clematis Little Lemons (‘Zo14100’PBR) from breeder J. van Zoest B.V. from the Netherlands. ‘Kokonoe’ has a special flower shape in a warm, purple colour. It carries many flowers on the plant. Little Lemons has yellow, bell-shaped flowers and the fluffy seed heads are a plus after the flowering. Little Lemons has a dwarf habit and because of this and its long flowering period, it is a suitable pot plant. Above mentioned varieties are all introduced at the Chelsea Flower Show by Thompson & Morgan.
Introductions from Hillier Nurseries Garden Centre’s are a.o. Cordyline australis Pink Star (‘TUS019’PBR) and Weigela Picobella Rosa (‘TVP2’). Cordyline Pink Star is found by Grzegorz Tuszyński from Poland; it has pink-red variegated foliage. Pink Star is a compact plant. Weigela Picobella Rosa is very compact as well. This dwarf variety has fine foliage and gives an enormous amount of flowers. Picobella Rosa is selected by Bert Verhoef from the Netherlands.
An introduction form Hillier Nurseries Garden Centre’s as well as Suttons Nurseries is Isoplexis Bella (‘ISOB007’PBR). A beauty with its compact growth and rich flowering. Isoplexis Bella branches well and is a fast grower. This introduction is bred by Birdie Lenard-Fountain from the United States.
Suttons introduces also Delphinium elatum Cinderella (‘DD-2011’PBR) of Dowdeswell’s Delphiniums from the US, Sedum takesimense Atlantis ('Nonsitnal'PBR) from Hortech, Inc form the US and Vaccinium corymbosum Flamingo ('Hoogi045'PBR) from Handelskwekerij G. Hoogenraad BV from the Netherlands. Delphinium Cinderella has completely filled, baby pink flowers with green dots at the edge and in the heart. This plant shows a high level of uniformity. Sedum Atlantis is a multi-coloured plant that demands little maintenance. Atlantis has yellow variegated foliage, the flower buds change from pink to cherry red and the flowers are yellow. Vaccinium Flamingo has variegated foliage as well but its best characteristics are the rich fruit set and the sweet fruits.
