"Customers love the concept of Small Plants for Small Spaces"

Small Plants for Small Spaces continues to increase in demand with UK garden centres restocking in record breaking time. Sales of Farplants’ consumer focused range has increased by 94% ytd. Over a period of just over two weeks, some garden centres topped up Small Plants for Small Spaces three times.

Since its launch, the range has become Farplants third biggest annual promotion. The nursery group, made up of four growers, designed the range to help gardeners find the perfect plants for their modern sized gardens. Brett Avery, Managing Director of Farplants Sales, is thrilled with its continued popularity.

“When we designed Small Plants for Small Spaces, we wanted to create a consumer focused promotion that helped solve the problem faced by many gardeners – what will work in the space I have? It is fantastic to see such a positive reaction from garden centres and shoppers alike. The rate of restocking of the range shows the message has hit the mark with shoppers. As well as using the vibrant POS, garden centres have really embraced the concept by creating some fantastic imaginative displays.”

The range is stocked by award winning Garden Centre The Old Railway Line. Joe Aldworth, the centre’s Marketing Manager, is delighted with the range and so are their shoppers:

“Our customers love the concept of Small Plants for Small Spaces. We trialled the plants last year for the first time. They sold so well we had no choice but to stock them again this season!”

The Old Railway Line are an independent, family run Garden Centre, Farm Shop and restaurant in Mid-Wales. 2019 marks their 30th anniversary; since its humble beginnings as a 6×4 greenhouse in 1989, owners Mark and Christine have transformed the business into the popular and successful Garden Centre it is today. As recognition of their hard work and dedication, The Old Railway Line were awarded the 2018 Best Garden Centre of the Year by the Garden Centre Association.

“We felt the ‘Small Plants for Small Spaces’ range complimented our current bedding and seasonal ranges. The range of quality plants are perfect for experienced and novice gardens to add a variety of compact plants to small spaces in their gardens.”

“As well as experienced gardeners I think the concept also appeals to new gardeners. To many gardening can be daunting, but the POS and visuals surrounding the range gives a spark of inspiration to plant pots, baskets and troughs to transform the smallest of spaces into a place to relax and enjoy throughout the year.”

Joe has been promoting the range on social media as well as in store.

“The range is promoted well in store using the eye catching point of sale provided by Farplants. We also run a multi-buy of 4 for £10 which encourages customers to purchase a basket or trolley load at a time! We have also promoted the range of ‘Small Plants for Small Spaces’ on our social media platforms. The response on social media is always very popular. Our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram followers react well to pictures and love the concept of creating exciting, colourful displays in pots, planters and borders.”

Small Plants for Small Spaces is available from Farplants from February through to late June. The range won Best Sales or Marketing Campaign at the HortWeek Business awards 2018.
