US (NH): April fires brings May buyers at Murray Farm Greenhouse

Barely a month after a fire ripped through Murray Farm Greenhouse, David Murray is back in full bloom, offering planting advice and recommending flowers to customers.

Aside from the skeleton of a brick building, a rusted chimney and a scorched trailer, there is little evidence that the farm suffered a fire in mid-April. Murray says there is still work to be done before the business is completely back to normal.

But the cold weather that prevailed throughout April and continues into May delayed the planting season, giving the greenhouse more time to get back on its feet.

“As always the Mother’s Day crowd showed up,” he said. “Even though we keep trying to pump the breaks, saying, ‘It’s cold, it’s early, don’t take more than you need to, you still have time to garden,’ we still had a good weekend.”
