Floranova presents novelties at the FlowerTrials

Established in in 1978, Floranova is a specialized breeder of flower seed varieties for the professional bedding and pot plant sector, and their seed products are available to trade and consumers through a network of wholesale and retail distributors throughout the world. Following the acquisition of Floranova by Syngenta in 2018, Floranova will now also be the wholesale brand representing the combined seed & vegetative assortment from Floranova, Syngenta Flowers & Goldsmiths in Europe.

The highlights for Flowertrials 2019 are:

F1 Vinca ‘Blockbuster’
Floranova’s latest Vinca breeding has focused on flower size. This new series of 10 colours brings all of the attributes you would expect from Floranova Vinca, but with huge flowers. Blockbuster has a compact, well branched habit as seen with Vitesse, but with much larger flowers that maintain their well-rounded form. The flowers are capable of reaching 5.5-6 cm, even in extreme conditions. The colour intensity of Blockbuster is much greater, even in full sun conditions.

F1 Vinca ‘Cora XDR’
Improved series, now highly resistant to ten of the most virulent isolates of Phytophthora nicotianae that cause Phytophthora blight on annual vinca. Cora XDR is also easier to grow: improved branching, uniformity, and free-flowering ideal for premium packs and small to larger pots. Higher consumer appeal: large showy flowers in a wide range of solid and high demand bicolour patterns.

F1 Begonia Bossa Nova ‘Night Fever Papaya’
Night Fever Papaya is a New Generation of Bossa Nova with very dark foliage. Just like Bossa Nova blooms will cover the plants from late spring until first frosts and the branching plants will provide the same quality display as more expensive vegetative products. Available as high quality pelleted seed, Night Fever Papaya makes a long flowering basket and container plant.

F1 Dianthus ‘IQ’
Naturally dwarf in habit, Dianthus IQ is a new, grower friendly product. The only fully day length neutral interspecific dianthus on the market, resulting in much earlier flowering. IQ is highly floriferous and will produce a uniform canopy of flowers across the plant. The range of 9 individual colours plus a Formula Mix and Picotee Mix will cover every grower requirement.

F1 Petunia ‘Skybox Rose Star’
New class of large-flowered spreading petunias for high-impact pots and hanging baskets. Reliably targets early season sales with extra early flowering, even under short days, on a tidy and easy to manage plant habit. Very uniform and showy star pattern provides a high quality option at a great price for high volume spring promotions.

F1 Begonia ‘Top Hat Rose Bicolour’
Trials show it has the biggest blooms of any big flowered Begonia – up to 20% bigger than its rivals – and offers the fastest finish. It flowers between 10 and 14 days earlier, has much better branching, and keeps flowering all season long. It offers a delicate, pure White. Other colours include Scarlet and Pink, and for 2019 there will be the new Rose Bicolour.
