13 women entrepreneurs in Hakkari who are members of Flowers Essence Women’s Cooperative, built their own greenhouse as a part of the state’s “Women Growers in Ornamental Plant Production” project.
Receiving around 50,000 USD state funds from the Ministry of Agriculture and East Anatolian Project Regional Development Agency, these entrepreneurs built 2 greenhouses in an area of 1 hectare to grow ornamental plants.
These new growers grow petunia, begonia, celosia, dahlia, and euonymus and then sell it to local municipalities and businesses which use these plants to decorate the green areas all around the city. As Ramadan is underway, women still spend the majority of their day in the greenhouses.
Cooperative Chairman and grower Sibel Adıyaman: “We are working with 13 women in this project and contribute all to our households financially. The orders mostly come from the municipality and other local government institutions. We start planting around March. We have carefully selected the plants which are suitable to grow in Hakkari’s climate.“
