Turkey: Final sales numbers from Mother’s Day indicate tenfold increase

Turkey Florists Association Chairman Ismail Basaran: “The sales increased tenfold during the week of Mother’s Day. Some florists had trouble keeping up with all the orders they have received. Mixed bouquets were the main preference of the many customers followed by mono bouquets of roses and pot plants such as phalaenopsis, viola, and hydrangea. The average price per purchase was around 13 USD which varied significantly from city to city. Generally speaking, the minimum purchase price was around 6 USD and the maximum purchase price was around 30 USD per purchase.

Because of Ramadan, the business has been really slow and we did not expect this much increase in orders. That’s why some florists were caught unprepared. Valentine’s Day is the most popular day for florists but this year Mother’s Day came close to Valentine’s Day.

Turkish consumers usually leave it to the last moment to buy their gifts which results in a delay of the delivery of the orders and creates problems for florists. If consumers place their orders a few days before in future years, they can find all the products they need and they won’t experience any delay problems for their orders.

E-tailers had trouble in fulfilling orders after midday and stopped receiving orders online which sent many customers to florists in the afternoon so our florists’ hands were full in the evening of the Mother’s Day.”
