De Ruiter presents new varieties at IFTEX Kenia

A few weeks ago De Ruiter Innovations invited traders, marketeers, auctioneers, business developers and product handlers over for a 'blind variety selection'. The invitees had to judge a number of existing, but mostly not yet commercial varieties, which were lined up without any specifics or details. Goal was to gather opinions and insights in the market of tomorrow: which colours, varieties, types have the biggest market potential?

Now, the results are there. At the IFTEX in Nairobi, Kenya, the winners were revealed. As it turned out, a few exciting numbers as well as a few new codes stood out, meaning the latter ones will indeed be available for commercial production as soon as sufficient plant material is at hand.

"These are the varieties that really stood out", account manager Huub Snijder told us. He and his colleagues were quite satisfied with the responses they got.


"Now it is more clear to us which varieties has the most potential", Snijder continues. "Besides, the results are interesting to the different jury members as well. As it turned out, it is not always easy to recognize commercial varieties. At the same time the results tell what people turn to intuitively. All in all, it gives all parties involved more of an idea about the future assortment .
