If you're having a hard time finding and keeping employees, you aren't alone: The National Federation of Independent Business recently found that "22 percent of small employers who have hired an employee for their most-skilled position in the past two years have actually lowered the minimum requirements for applicants." What's more, according to that NFIB survey, "about a quarter of employers said they lowered requirements for the most-common, less-skilled positions."
Those stats don't surprise Glenna Hecht of Humanistic Consulting who said small-business owners face significant challenges in this historically tight labor market.
She recently presented "Hire Smarter," a free webinar for Society of American Florists members that provides tips and advice on how to beat the odds and build the team you need. The 20-minute session included an additional 10 minutes for questions and answers.
Hecht's session is the first in a three-part HR Summer Boot Camp series for SAF members.
