Turkey: An entrepreneur in Yalova builds an ornamental plant greenhouse with government funding

The ornamental plant greenhouse built in Cinarcik district of Yalova in northwestern Turkey has been opened with a ceremony.

50% of the high-tunnel plastic greenhouse construction costs were covered by the Ministry of Agriculture as a part of the 12th phase of the Rural Development Investments Support Program.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Agricultural Reforms General Directorate Rural Development and Accreditation Head Official Tuncay Ozmen noted that the project had started in 2006 as a pilot project in some villages in only 16 cities but now has spread to all 81 cities in Turkey.

Tuncay Ozmen: “The project has three main goals. One is to support new investments. Second, if an investment had already started but could not be completed, we get involved to complete the project. And thirdly, we offer government funds for types of equipment which have added value for the production process. The project will continue at least until 2020.

This particular greenhouse is 0.5 hectares and we were following every step of its construction process. 12 people will be employed in this greenhouse and we expect around 250,000 ornamental pot plants to be grown here annually. The greenhouse has cost approximately 75,000 USD and our ministry has covered 50% of it.”
