US (IN): New Mishawaka greenhouse to benefit students, community

Mishawaka will soon have a new greenhouse that students & the community will have access to.

Students say the new greenhouse is a drastic improvement compared to the space they’ve used at Mishawaka High School over the past two years.

The parks department leads the program that teaches students about horticulture and landscaping and give students hands-on experience growing plants for the city.

Students in the school's Landscape & Garden Club say the small space was less than ideal.

That's why they are so excited they can soon have a new, real greenhouse they can use next to the Battell Center.

“At our old greenhouse, it would go from 40 in the morning to 110 in the afternoon. So everything would die. Everything. It was so bad," said Isaiah Moragne, Rising Mishawaka HS Senior.

It's now out with the old and in with the new.

The old space is 500 square feet and posed a challenge for plant growth. The new greenhouse is 1,200 square feet with all features of a functional greenhouse.
