PKM introduces Desert Rose:

“We see great potential in it, both as green and as a flowering plant”

A green plant that, as a surprise, has beautiful flowers about two till four years after germination. Gartneriet PKM added this Desert Rose to its collection. “We took over the Adenium from Nældebakken, who has grown this plant for many years”, says sales manager Claes Bastrup. “We saw great potential in this beautiful pot plant both as a green and as a flowering plant.”

Response to the increasing demand for green pot plants
Gartneriet PKM just started the cultivation. “We do not use much of our 190 m2 for the Desert Rose, but we definitely wish to expand if there is a market for this plant. As it needs special growing conditions it is an expensive crop to produce. We are right now testing the demand for the Desert Rose. The original idea was to market it as a flowering pot plant, but as we have seen an increasing demand for green pot plants during the years and we saw great potential in marketing the Desert Rose also as a green pot plant that is easy to care for - therefore we started up.“

Perfect for beginners
The Desert Rose does not need a lot of care, which makes it perfect for both beginners, who are less experienced with plants, or for the busy ones, who often forget to water the plant. Coming to this is the fact that the Desert Rose resembles a Bonsai plant with its compact growth form. The strain holds a lot of water, and this means that the Desert Rose grows wild in Eastern Africa.

In short, expectations are high. “We already have had some very good and positive reactions from the first clients”, Claes concludes.
