Dutch exports are still heading for record values, however the sale of cut flowers at the Royal FloraHolland auction last month suffered a serious blow. In particular chrysanthemum and rose were hit hard.
Although June had two auction days less than the same month last year, that does not account for a 14.7% drop in turnover. For the chrysanthemum this was almost a 30% drop, for the rose almost 20% and also other flowers sold less: gerbera, freesia and hydrangea 15% less and alstroemeria even 28% less. Only the peonies and the much smaller product matthiola were up, with 10.7% and 18.4 percent more sales respectively.
Turnover in the pot plants was 5.1% lower, but with 19 auction days compared to 21 last year, comparable values were achieved. Only phalaenopsis with over 10% loss of turnover compared to June last year is still a problem child and the hydrangea, bromeliad and pot chrysanthemum also lagged somewhat behind. What really stands out is still a fantastic growth in cacti: 34% more plants and the same growth in turnover were noted.
Still the outdoor plants were sold nicely. Across the board, a 6.7% higher turnover was generated. Positive outliers were shrubs (43%) and mandevilla, with almost a double turnover.
