UK: Large-scale fire at Oakridge Nursery in Sawbridgeworth

About 30 firefighters spent almost four hours tackling a large-scale blaze at a garden centre on the outskirts of Sawbridgeworth on Friday afternoon (July 5).

According to a spokesman for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, the fire at Oakridge Nursery off Redricks Lane started in trees. Flames spread to two wooden buildings and then woodland.

The alarm was raised at 4.40pm. Six HFRS crews – from Bishop's Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Hertford, Ware, Hoddesdon and Cheshunt – were sent to the scene. The firefighting operation was over by 8.30pm.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire police said: "We sent officers to the scene to assist with road closures in Redricks Lane. These were lifted by around 8.30pm."

The cause of the fire was accidental. The nursery is open for business as usual.
