The Horticultural Lighting Conference has expanded, and is now HortiCann Light + Tech. Horticultural lighting remains a key focus of the one-day conference, with topics reflecting the increasing role of commercial cannabis cultivation in addition to ornamentals, fruits and vegetables. The conference also features an additional track with more speakers, to address technological topics beyond lighting, such as environmental controls, test and measurement, business and operations software, and security systems.
This year’s HortiCann Light + Tech Conference will be held October 31, 2019 at the Sheraton Downtown Denver in Denver, Colo. This one-day conference is likely to sell out – offering opportunities to more than 400 attendees to learn, network and exchange information.
Due to the unique properties of LED lighting and major advances in our understanding of plants, possibilities are now available to tune the light to boost yield, customize the plant characteristics and maintain plant health. Each species has its own unique light “recipe” which delivers exactly the right light at the right time. Additionally, light can produce suppressive effects on disease-causing viruses, while maintaining plant health and productivity.
“Solid-state lighting has injected technology into the horticultural space enabling increased yields and lower energy costs, but technology is coming to play in ways far beyond the lighting that supplies energy to the plant,” said Maury Wright, editor of LEDs Magazine and conference co-chair. “Our expanded scope under the HortiCann Light +Tech brand will consider automation of other horticultural systems, the adoption of artificial intelligence, and even IT and security angles that are especially important to cannabis growers.”
