Drilling starts for Ecuador’s first geothermal energy plant

Ecuador’s first geothermal energy plant has started its first phase of construction, with drilling started on the Imbabura site.

The project is financed by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The investment for the construction of the geothermal plant was of USD 250 million.

The Electric Corporation of Ecuador (Celec) commissioned the 50MW geothermal project.
